How to Crochet an Owl Applique

image

I have been searching and searching for a cute little owl applique. Let me tell you, there are not many out there that are free. So I had my laptop on my lap. Equipped myself with my yarn and needle and began making my own little owl. I hope you all find him cute and useful. All that I ask, is that you do not sell my pattern. Use it to embelish as you wish, but please don’t sell the pattern. I graciously thank you and here we go…

Oh one more thing… This is my first pattern that I have created and then tried to write out. If there are weird errors, please forgive me and let me know so that I can make the necessary changes.

F hook (3.75mm)

BODY

I like to use an adjustable ring to start. The directions I used are located at this adjustable ring link. I have never been fond of the whole chain x amount and then slip stitch and then crochet in the loop. This is a breeze to use. If you are not interested in creating an adjustable ring then you can chain 4 and sl st in first chain to create a ring.

6sc in loop join with sl st
chain 1, sc in sl st, 2 sc in next 6 sts, join with sl st
chain 2, 2ds in next 12sts, join with sl s do not finish off
Tighen ring as desired with center tail

EARS

starting with sl st from body, all in next st - sc, chain 2, sl st in second from hook and sc (1 ear)
sl st the next 3

all in next st - sc, chain 2, sl st in second from hook and sc (1 ear) then finish off.

WINGS

with your wing color, sl st next to last ear created (I started on my left side of the owl).

sc in next st, hdc in next st, ds in next st, ds in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, and sl st; finish off.

for the right side start at the bottom and work your way up. start 6 st from end of left wing.

sl st to join in color. sc in in next st, hdc in next st, ds in next st, ds in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next st, - finish off. You should end right next to the right ear.

EYES

leave a long tail for sewing on a adjustable ring loop.

6sc in loop and join with sl st - finish off.

With black yarn, create pupil how ever it is easiest for you. I came from the back up through the middle, tied a knot and threaded it back down the center again. maybe do it twice depending on how you want your effect to look. Make two of these eyes.

BEAK

Take your beak color and sew a triangle between the eyed and point it down.
Then voila!!!! A cute little owl!!!

Blanket is FINISHED! And a really good recipe...

I am so excited... I have finished the blanket for my niece! It turned out so cute!

I am eager to make one, a tad smaller, for etsy and make it for some other little baby to enjoy. Although it was a little tedious to put together... I enjoyed making it. And I think it looks gorgeous!

Last night, my husband found this recipe and I made it. I wanted to share it with you all because it was so tasty and easy to make. It took me approx 30 min to make. And my daughter who is 2 1/2 loved it! Well she loves all pasta but with the spinach, I was a little nervous. But she loved it and it was a success.

TUSCAN GARLIC CHICKEN
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into pieces
  2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  salt
and pepper to taste
  olive oil
  2 cloves garlic
A pot full of your favorite pasta, cooked
  1 red pepper, julienne cut
  ½ cup white wine
1 box frozen spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
  2 cups (16oz) heavy cream
  1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

I found this recipe and my entire family LOVED it!!

Thaw spinach and squeeze dry between paper towels.

Heat olive oil in skillet. Add garlic and chicken. While
chicken cooks, sprinkle with salt, pepper and Italian
seasonings. Continue to cook until chicken is cooked and
golden brown. Remove chicken from pan.

Place red pepper in skillet. Add wine, spinach and cream;
boil. Cook until sauce starts to slightly thicken. Complete
by stirring in Parmesan Cheese and chicken pieces.

Serve.

Well I am off to do some much needed blog hopping.
Enjoy your Tuesday!

Changes and Etsy Help

Ok... sorry... It has been awhile since I posted. There is a change in the what I put on this blog and started a new blog. I love reading. So I decided to create "Jeanna's Bookshelf" at http://jeannasbookshelf.blogspot.com/ for all my book reads and reviews. And yes, I have a few reviews. One was for "The Chocolate Diaries" (excellent book) and then I also read and reviewed "Between Friends" another EXCELLENT book. So please go check out my other blog and feel free to follow that one too! :)

Ahhh on to Etsy. I have a few few items on Etsy.com (http://www.etsy.com/shop/morgan1875?ref=si_shop) but sadly they are not selling. :( So off I went to get a little Etsy help with my cousin. We got some great tips and great inspiration from a successful Etsy seller Lana's Little Darlin's (http://www.etsy.com/shop/lanaslittledarlins). She has some of the cutest items for baby, toddlers, and kids. The best advise was to keep at it and blog blog blog. Does anyone else have great tips for Etsy? It was suggested that there be a giveaway on my blog. I just might try that. Also sales were good. And heck, who doesn't like a sale!!

I did drop off all my business cards with a deal on them and a raffle item to the Pleasanton Mother's Club for their Mother's day brunch. That goes to 200 people so I am hoping something good comes out of that!! Crossing my fingers. I also am looking into being at the San Ramon Farmers Market. I just need to finalize a few things to get the ball rolling.

Etsy friends, if you can help out with suggestions I would appreciate it.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I am off to finally finish my nieces blanket. I swear I will finish...

"Between Friends"

So as I have posted previously that I found a book blog hop that I am enjoying. Crazy-for-books.com So if you are a reader, it is a fun site participate in. The question for the friday blog hop... "Pick a character from a book you are currently reading or have just finished and tell us about him/her?" I am curretnly reading "Between Friends" by Debbe Macomber. It is an exciting read that I find hard to put down, even at 2am! The character I like the most is Lesley, a mother of four kids, going through hard times, with a husband that is a loser, and yet she strives to try to be the best for her kids. I certainly don't compare myself to her. I have only one child, fortunate enough to be able to be a stay at home mom, with a husband who works hard. But I do strive to be the best for my daughter. The book in its self is a great book, taking you through vietnam war, womens movement, and other historical events. It is comprised of nothing but letters and journal entries. I am over half way done and I can't wait to get to the end to see what happens.

Have a great day everyone.

My new bog hop... via Crazy-for-books.com

Being such an avid reader along with everything else on my plate, this is such a good find. Crazy-for-books.com has a book blog hop. What a fantastic way to meet and see what others are reading. I am always in the hunt for a good book. I was just poking around on the net and googling books and blogging for books, etc., and up popped raves about Crazy-for-books.com. So I am excited to experience this new blog and hopefully get some good reads out of it. So I am off to do some hopping. IF you are from that blog hop and ventured over to my site, below are some books that I have reviewed and posted that I am currently reading. Sadly I read several books at once. But I do finish them.

Take care.

Currently reading.... Between Friends by Debbie Macomber. So far it is a great book. I am half way through and I started Monday of this week.
